The SSL list is made by Ayoy. It was inspired by Troy Hunt’s list of foreign banks' SSL status.

But surely we can do better than a static list? That was the origin of ssllistan.se.

Previously we used Qualys SSL Labs for the base evaluation and then added additional tests. Since early 2026 we have migrated to our own testing.
